Evra has been a key member of Ferguson’s side since joining the club in 2006, but looked shaky in United’s 3-2 win over Southampton ten days ago.
Buttner was signed in the summer transfer window from Vitesse Arnhem for £3.9million to put pressure on the 31-year-old who has seen his position go unchallenged for nearly six seasons – and now the youngster is set to be handed his chance to break into the side, according to the Daily Mirror.
Ferguson is also reportedly undecided regarding his goalkeeping options, with the inconsistent David de Gea being dropped for the Southampton tie after an error in United’s 3-2 win over Fulham the previous week.
But the Scot is yet to be convinced by second-choice stopper Anders Lindegaard, who looked nervous during the game at St Mary’s.
